The Clergy/Lay Workshop in Birmingham, Alabama was held Monday, March 14 to Thursday, March 17, 2011 Laurence Wainwright addresses the workshop with the Rev. Maria Isabel Santiviago Mrs. Sandra Pickering Mrs. Peggy McLaughlin Attendance was limited to one clergy and two lay leaders per church, by invitation of their vicar or rector. This workshop was for those who are newly involved in Deaf Ministry, both clergy and lay leaders. Some of the sessions combined clergy and lay leaders and others targeted clergy and lay leaders separately. Topics Vocabulary (signs specific to liturgy including signed hymns) Logistics (lighting, positioning, sight lines) Language levels Each participant was videotaped with hands-on practice. There were round-table discussions on subjects such as What works for you? What doesn't work? Practical issues, Network building, Mentoring, Available resources (ECD training DVDs, some of which are new and some which are historical in nature) All expenses for one clergy and two lay leaders were paid by the ECD. Accommodations were at the Drury Inn and Suites in Birmingham, AL. ECD provided transportation to and from the hotel to St. John's Church for the Deaf. |
